This work by James Florio was included in Sticks, his recent Radius monograph produced in collaboration with the sculptor Patrick Dougherty. Florio was commissioned to document sixteen of Dougherty's extant ephemeral outdoor sculptural installations crafted from saplings from their respective locales. With an eye towards the quiet details and unexpected moments within Dougherty's constructions, Florio brings these works to life through thoughtful interpretation and exquisite black-and-white photographs.
James Florio is a Montana-based photographer focused on the built environment and the life surrounding it. Using the camera as a means to investigate, understand, and document, he works primarily with large format film for its depth and deliberation. In 2022, he was awarded the Julius Shulman Institute Excellence in Photography Award.
